At first I was surprised that my dominant perspective was nurturing. Upon further reflection I am not that surprised. I almost think that most Canadian teachers are drawn to this career because of the nurturing aspect. When I look back on my high school days, I can really only think of a couple teachers that seemed to neglect the nurturing aspect of school. But in comparison to my undergrad experience at UBC, there tended to be less opportunity for professors to really have a nurturing influence on their student.
The rest of the results were not all that surprising. I think I was pretty average for the rest. However, the social reform score was kind of interesting to me. I think we have this tendency to separate math from the social arts and therefore math teachers tend to not have this goal for their teaching. I also think that the curriculum does not allow for much influence when it comes social reform. That being said, I also think that some of the logic in math is something that can be incredibly useful for social reform. Especially when it comes to thinking about why we know what we know.
