My Notes from the Professional Development Day

Here are my notes from the Building Math Confidence with Appropriate Use of Technology by Texas Instruments:

- suggests that the calculator is the "safe space" for students with a lack of confidence to take a risk

- explorations with a calculator : is this rule x^0=1 always true?

- provides instant feedback

- my impression is that using these calculators is quite complicated for most classes and that there are more user-friendly programs that cost less money

- catch misunderstanding before they get too deep into the learning

- the difference between thinking algebraic thinking and mindless thinking

- have to choose an appropriate value for x (I think it seems kind of weird), but I suppose the soft ware requires it

- always say the units when talking about degrees or radians
