Lesson Plan: Sailing Right-of-Way Rules

Presentation

 

Teach the new content and language.

First, explain what a left (port) tack and right (starboard) tack are and how sails would look like based on the wind direction.


Then, explain the two main rules of “right-of-way”

  1. Right is right 

  2. Windward stay clear


Third, do some key examples together.

Practice and Production

 


 

 

 

 

Use the “Right-of-Way” test stimulator app on my phone.

  • If students are understanding, we can make it a game 

  • If not, we can continue doing it together

Tools needed: My phone with app downloaded and a whiteboard/marker
